    Este artículo examina el lugar que ocupó el mapuzugun durante el proceso constituyente chileno (2019-2022). En particular, se describe de qué manera amplió sus contextos de uso en tres momentos del proceso—el estallido social, la Convención Constitucional y la escritura de la nueva propuesta constitucional—y se evalúa este fenómeno desde la perspectiva del proceso de normalización de esta lengua originaria. Para ello, se plantea un estudio de caso único en el que se caracterizan los discursos en los que se ha empleado, se identifican sus funciones sociales y se evalúa de qué manera la lengua se ha adaptado a estos nuevos usos discursivos. El análisis muestra que el mapuzugun amplió su presencia en un contexto especializado como el legislativo y transformó su estatus, pues tuvo un reconocimiento como lengua oficial de la Convención Constitucional, una institución del estado de Chile. Estos hechos suponen un avance importante en el proceso de normalización del mapuzugun; no obstante, al haberse llevado a cabo de forma no planificada, se corre el riesgo de que estos nuevos espacios discursivos se pierdan y no lleguen realmente a consolidarse entre los hablantes. Por eso, es necesario que se dote de reconocimiento legal a las lenguas indígenas y se creen las condiciones materiales necesarias para que los hablantes puedan usar sus lenguas en estos nuevos espacios.

    This article examines the role played by mapuzugun in the first Chilean constituent process. Specifically, it describes how mapuzugun expanded to new contexts of use in three stages of this process—the social outbreak, the Constitutional Convention, and the drafting of the new Constitutional proposal—and assesses this phenomenon regarding the normalization process of this indigenous language. To that end, a single case study was carried out in order to characterize the new discourse practices where mapuzugun is employed, to identify the social functions performed, and to evaluate the way the language has changed to accommodate to these new communicative uses. The analysis shows that mapuzugun increased its presence in a specialized legislative context and changed its status, because it was recognized as official language of the Constitutional Convention, a political body of the Chilean State. These advances are crucial for the process of mapuzugun normalization. However, they were carried out in an unplanned manner, so there is a high risk that these new discourse spaces might get lost and do not consolidate among speakers. For that reason, it is necessary that indigenous languages are granted legal recognition and that material conditions are guaranteed to enable speakers to use their languages in these new spaces.
