Este trabajo analiza las implicaciones que para la guerrilla uruguaya del MLN-Tupamaros supuso la internacionalización de la violencia a través del secuestro de varios extranjeros entre 1970 y 1971. Lejos de favorecer cambios en las lógicas de la lucha armada regional, ello contribuyó a debilitar su imagen, alimentar presiones foráneas al gobierno de Jorge Pacheco y sentar las bases para una respuesta militar más eficaz. También hizo que los tupamaros inspirasen a diferentes formaciones terroristas europeas, aunque esto es cuestionado por militancia tupamara. Para llegar a estas conclusiones se utilizan fuentes de archivo, pero sobre todo relatos procedentes de entrevistas en profundidad a destacados tupamaros, realizadas entre septiembre de 2021 y octubre de 2022.

This paper analyzes the implications for the Uruguayan MLN-Tupamaros guerrilla of the internationalization of violence through the kidnapping of various foreigners between 1970 and 1971. The foregoing, far from favoring changes in the logic of the regional armed struggle, contributed to weaken its image, feed foreign pressure on the government of Jorge Pacheco and lay the foundations for a more effective military response. At the same time, the Tupamaros inspired different European terrorist formations, although this is questioned by Tupamaran militants. To reach these conclusions, archival sources are used, but above all accounts from in-depth interviews with prominent tupamaros, carried out between September 2021 and October 2022.
