Taking Telemachus’ character and its voyage in the Telemachy as an educational journey in the Odyssey and its impact on Western societies, we take philosopher and philologist Barbara Cassin’s approaches to think about what it means to inhabit and the sense of nostalgia in three characters: Ulysses, Aeneas, and Arendt. In this way, they try to link the senses of hospitality, being foreign, and ‘feeling at home’ with understanding education as a journey from what we perceive as closest to what we feel is the most alien. This text tries to make sense of the link between ‘education’ and ‘inhabiting’ the world, to us and what we conceive of as our own and strange.
