This article discusses and guides actions for the development of a mathematics class based on comprehension. The theoretical conceptions of mathematical comprehension and learning residues, structured by the Problem-Solving methodology, are presented. The questions that make it possible to obtain such residues, with a focus on student protagonism, are not always found in textbooks, which highlights the role of the teacher in structuring or modifying these questions to guide students to learn while doing mathematics. In this sense, this article aims to guide the teaching action for the problematization of mathematics, discussing how the questions present in textbooks which have potential to enable the construction of new knowledge, can be restructured or approached in the perspective of Problem Solving with understanding.
