    Veblen intervino con el grupo heterogéneo de intelectuales críticos en la revuelta contra el formalismo imperante (la revuelta contra el formalismo operado en todos los campos del saber, incluido el Derecho). Pero, además, planteó la realidad de polarización creciente de la sociedad norteamericana que propiciaban las políticas liberales de principios del siglo veinte. Esa polarización regía en el sistema de clases en general, pero también en el mundo de la empresa y de las relaciones laborales: entre los que llamaba “capitanes de industria” (empresarios/hombre de negocios) y la “subyacente población” (los trabajadores; aunque también el conjunto de las clases populares).

    Veblen intervened with the heterogeneous group of critical intellectuals in the revolt against the prevailing formalism (the revolt against formalism operating in all fields of knowledge, including Law). But, in addition, it raised the reality of the growing polarization of American society that the liberal policies of the early twentieth century fostered. This polarization prevailed in the class system in general, but also in the world of business and labor relations: between what he called “captains of industry” (entrepreneurs/businessmen) and the “underlying population” (the workers; but also, the popular classes as a whole).
