A través del relato se pueden descubrir los sonidos que emergen de la tierra y de las costumbres de los pueblos america‑ nos, mediatizados por la concepción filosófica y religiosa del autor y permiten conocer de una manera particular la mentalidad de un jesuita docto a comienzos de los tiem‑ pos modernos.

    José de Acosta wrote the Natural and Moral History of the Indies at the end of the sixteenth century. In it, he described and reflected on American geography and its history. Through the story one can discover the sounds that emerge from the land and those that can be percei‑ ved when in contact with the customs of the American people, as interpreted by the author through his philoso‑ phical and religious conceptions. This allows us, through unconventional means, to get a better understanding of the mentality of a learned Jesuit at the beginning of mo‑ dern times.
