The present article offers some observations on the challenges encountered by the translatorsof children’s literature. Said difficulties are due to its playful and pedagogic character, aswell as to its easily influenced target audience, which the translator might want to protectby omitting certain elements or explaining others. The analysed data consists of excerptsfrom two volumes of Elvira Lindo’s Manolito Gafotas and their translations into Polish. Themain interest of the study is to examine the techniques that the translator uses to renderthe names and nicknames, culture-specific items and allusions to popular culture, as well asto discover whether there exists a tendency to domestication or if the reader of the targetversion can experience some aspects of the source culture.
