This paper explores some aspects of the process of the meaning decoding of certain Spanish acronyms at the linguistic levels of representation: phonetic, morphological and semantic. The purpose is to know how and in which of these levels the meaning of these acronyms was perceived, as well as what factors influenced this process. The data was obtained from the survey applied to twenty native Spanish-speaking informants between the 18 and 55 years old. This investigation indicated there is difficulty in deducing the meaning of acronyms due to problems in the segmentation of words and the association of their parts withdifferent constituents, a fact that causes the diversity of meaning interpretations made by the receivers.
