    O artigo apresenta uma leitura da primeira “estória” de Luuanda (2006), Vavó Xixi e seu neto Zeca Santos, do angolano José Luandino Vieira, buscamos identificar, por meio da junção espaço/personagem, os símbolos que constituem a cidade literária Luuanda. Partindo das concepções de espaço, cidade e seus símbolos, nossa pesquisa destaca a representação ritualística em que personagens e espaço unem-se para preparar a chegada da nova cidade Luuanda. Ler as estórias que compõem o livro, é ler esses espaços, seus símbolos e sua simbologia. Nesse movimento, apoiamo-nos nas contribuições de Bakhtin (1993) e Lotman (1978) – cronotopia, e Lins (1976) que inscreve a personagem como espaço. Assim, ao trazer a marca da cidade Luanda inscrita no título, o autor nos solicita uma nova leitura da capital de Angola. Remapeamos a cidade, guiados pelos personagens, que em Luuanda, estão misturados ao espaço e aos símbolos míticos da natureza, com destaque para a chuva.

    The article presents one reading of the first "story" of Luuanda (2006), Vavó Xixi and his grandchild Zeca Santos, of the Angolan José Luandino Vieira; we sought to identify, through the space/character junction, the symbols that constitute the literary city Luuanda. Starting from the conceptions of space, city and its symbols, our research highlights the ritualistic representation in which characters and space unite to prepare the arrival of the new city Luuanda. In these rituals, the organization of space and the influence of the force of nature are common in the preparation of the "initiates." Thus, reading the stories that make up the book is to read these spaces, their symbols and their symbology. In this movement, we rely on the theoretical contributions of Bakhtin (1993) and Lotman (1978) that associate time and space (chronotope) and Lins (1976) that inscribes the character as space. Thus, by bringing the Luanda city mark inscribed in the title, the author requests a new reading of this space already identified - the capital of Angola. This attempt to read is to "re-map" the city, to create new codes, guided by the characters, which in the case of Luuanda, are mixed with the space and the mythical symbols of nature.
