Ser ou não ser bilíngue? Os benefícios de aulas bilíngues aos alunos autistas

    Never have the terms inclusive education and bilingual education been more present in the debates in the media and in education. As inclusive education is solidifying in Brazilian schools, it is not surprising that it will, at some point, end up meeting with bilingual education implemented more and more in various public and private institutions. Consequently, the concept of special bilingual education arises, originating from the English Bilingual Special Education, which advocates for the teaching of additional languages to special children. Despite the urgency of the topic, teacher training still moves at a slow pace, resulting in a huge imbalance. In this sense, the goals of this study are to be a practical and accessible material for teachers with diverse backgrounds who work or wish to work in this segment, and to demystify the belief that autistic people cannot become bilingual. At first, it will organize a presentation of the concept of ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) through the evolution of the definition, as well as the characteristics of each spectrum. Next, it will discuss the rights of the autistic student, outlining the Brazilian Legislation in conjunction with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It will address the historical change that the way of seeing the phenomenon of bilingualism has undergone, based on research that shows the benefits that bilingual education can bring to autistic students. Moreover, it will explain (i) linguistic characteristics of autistic students for the teacher's elucidation, (ii) strategies for teaching and learning additional languages, and (iii) examples of activities aimed at the development of autistic students.     Nunca os termos educação inclusiva e educação bilíngue estiveram tão presentes nos debates da mídia e da educação. À medida em que a educação inclusiva vai se solidificando nas escolas brasileiras, não é de se espantar que acabará encontrando, em algum momento, com a educação bilíngue implementada cada vez mais em diversas instituições provadas e públicas. Consequentemente, surge o conceito de educação bilíngue especial originado do inglês Bilingual Special Education, a qual advoga pelo ensino de línguas adicionais às crianças especiais. Apesar da urgência do tema, a formação do professor ainda anda a passos curtos, resultando em um imenso desequilíbrio. Nesse sentido, os objetivos deste estudo são de ser um material prático e acessível a professores com diversas formações que atuam ou desejam atuar nesse segmento e o de desmitificar a crença de que autistas não podem se tornar bilíngues. A princípio, organizar-se-á uma apresentação do conceito do TEA (Transtorno do Espectro Autista) por meio da evolução da definição, bem como as características de cada espectro. Em seguida, discutirá acerca dos direitos do aluno autista, delineando a Legislação brasileira em conjunto com a Declaração Universal dos Direitos Humanos. Abordará a mudança histórica que sofreu a maneira de enxergar o fenômeno do bilinguismo, fundamentando-se em pesquisas que demonstram os benefícios que a educação bilíngue pode gerar aos alunos autistas. Ademais, explicitará (i) características linguísticas dos autistas para elucidação por parte do docente, (ii) estratégias de ensino e aprendizagem de línguas adicionais e (iii) exemplos de atividades que visam ao desenvolvimento do discente autista. Finalmente, apontaremos algumas lacunas ainda persistentes no cenário atual brasileiro.
