Soon after the unification of Italy, the cloister of the Monreale benedictine Abbey underwent restoration work supervised by the architect Giuseppe Patricolo which transformed the cloister image, determining largely his current configuration. The history of these restoration interventions occurred between 1867 and 1907 has been reconstructed by the author through the examination of unpublished archival documents and pictures, equally relevant to summarize in detail the most important works which changed the aspect of the cloister courtyard.
