Nowadays, a lot of shows based on non-dramatic texts (poetry/prose) proliferate on the Catalan stage. This is not new: many important modern and contemporary theatre people had come to the fore with this kind of shows before. However, this phenomenon has gained strength in recent years, having a great diversity of performances andreaching different audiences, including the Catalan stage. Our aim is to study those works that have been played in the Catalan Countries during the theatrical seasons 1999–2000 and 2009–2010. Some of our conclusions are, firstly, the acknowledgment of the important presenceof Russian writers in these shows and in less number, but also significant, North American authors. This situation could illustrate the loss of cultural weight of Europe since the Second World War and the Cold War. In this sense, most theatre artists who work with proposals of this nature do not choose only European texts, but mirror othernessto reflect on their identity. Moreover, from the dramatic performances based on texts of European authors, especially those that relate or refer more explicitly to the moral collapse brought about by World War II and the Holocaust, most are Jewish and tend to clearly belong to the orbit of nihilism and existentialism. In generic terms, then, theseare texts that reflect on the human condition from the perspective of moral emptiness.A different trend reveals that humanity would retain no attributes to date, (quoting the novel by Robert Musil The man without qualities, 1942) However, performances based on dramatic texts designed for a family audience take as reference material the Greek and Latin classics and popular tales which have a significant moral component: Texts with some artistic and ethic qualities…
