    Las unidades de hospitalización a domicilio para enfermos quirúrgicos en fase aguda y prequirúrgicos nacen como una unidad hospitalaria de apoyo al enfermo y su familia, con el fin de poder adelantar el alta y prestar unos cuidados domiciliarios desde el hospital que garanticen una buena continuidad y calidad asistencial. Para asegurar el éxito de estas unidades es imprescindible definir unos criterios de inclusión al programa, teniendo en cuenta que se trata de pacientes quirúrgicos.

    Con las unidades de hospitalización a domicilio nace el nuevo papel de enfermera hospitalaria experta en cuidados domiciliarios complejos que visita a los enfermos en sus casas. Se han protocolizado las visitas de Enfermería así como las visitas conjuntas con el médico especialista, con el fin de que el enfermo esté lo suficientemente controlado y cuidado en su propio entorno, con la misma intensidad y calidad que en el hospital, para mejorar su calidad de vida y la de sus cuidadores.

    The units of home-hospital for surgery and presurgery patients in acute phase arose as a hospital support unit for the patients and their families to allow the discharge from hospital to be brought forward and to allow home care to be provided to ensure good quality and continuity in the program.

    To ensure the success of these units it is necessary to define criteria for inclusion in the program, also being aware that these are surgery patients.

    With the home-hospital units, a new role is created for the hospital nurse expert in complex home care and that of the hospital doctor who visits the patients at home. The visits by the Nurses as well as those in conjunction with the specialized doctor have been defined in a protocol to ensure that the patients are sufficiently well controlled and cared for in their own environment with the same intensity and quality as in the hospital to improve their quality of life and that of their caregivers.
