Algunos aspectos léxicos y morfosintácticos de la primera traducción castellana impresa de la Commedia: el Infierno de Pedro Fernández de Villegas (Burgos, 1515)

    Este artículo presenta la vida y obra de Pedro Fernández de Villegas, traductor de una parte del Infierno de Dante Alighieri, que data de 1515 y que fue la única traducción al castellano de la Divina comedia hasta el siglo XIX. No solamente tradujo el poema en coplas de arte mayor, sino que incluyó comentarios extensos en prosa para explicar diversos contenidos de la obra. Estos desvelan la rica cultura humanística y clásica que poseía Villegas. El artículo se centra en el léxico y la morfosintaxis utilizada por él en la traducción, que combina latinismos y estructuras clásicas con neologismos y arcaísmos. Se comparan otras obras y otros autores para mostrar el nivel de conocimiento lingüístico de Villegas, y se destaca el uso de distintos registros del habla para diferenciar clases sociales en los personajes, tal y como hacía Dante.

    This article presents the life and work of Pedro Fernández de Villegas, translator of a part of Dante Alighieri's Inferno, which dates back to 1515 and was the only Spanish translation of the Divine Comedy until the 19th century. He not only translated the poem into coplas de arte mayor, but also included extensive prose comments to explain various contents of the work. These reveal the rich humanistic and classical culture that Villegas possessed. The article focuses on the lexicon and the morphosyntax used by him in the translation, which combines Latinisms and classical structures with neologisms and archaisms. Other works and other authors are compared to show Villegas's level of linguistic knowledge, and the use of different registers of speech is highlighted to differentiate social classes in the characters, just as Dante did.
