Este trabajo aborda la historia en español de la palabra corbacho, cuyas ocurrencias responden, en realidad, a dos voces homónimas de etimologías distintas: Por un lado, al resultado de la creación romance por derivación en la que participan el sustantivo corvo, del corvus latino, y el sufijo aumentativo-apreciativo -acho. Por otro lado, corbacho es también neologismo introducido en la lengua española por Cervantes desde el árabe y que, igualmente, no ha tenido un gran recorrido en los textos hispánicos, dada su concurrencia con palabras vernáculas más frecuentes como azote o rebenque.

This work deals with the history of the word corbacho in Spanish, whose ocurrences can be attributed indeed to two homonymus terms with different etymologies: On the one hand, the result of a process of derivation with two parts, the substantive corvo, from Latin corvus, and the augmentative-pejorative suffix -acho.
On the other hand, corbacho is also a neologism introduced by Cervantes into Spanish from Arabic; as well as the first case, this word did not have a great tour throughout Hispanic texts, since more frequent terms were prefered, such as azote or rebenque.
