    Uno de los temas predilectos de la historiografía española y la filología moderna ha sido, sin duda, el de los hispanojudíos y los conversos. Sin embargo, en relación con la presencia de los judíos en suelo hispánico se han planteado numerosas cuestiones todavía no resueltas completamente. ¿Realmente tuvieron los hispanojudíos un papel tan relevante y decisivo para la sociedad española del medioevo?; ¿debe España a los hispano-semitas su desarrollo cultural como defiende Américo Castro?; ¿hasta qué punto fueron importantes los judíos y los conversos en la actividad cultural y en el desarrollo de la lengua española y su literatura? Con objeto de dar respuesta a estas cuestiones, en el presente artículo se aborda una revisión de la investigación historiográfica y filológica sobre la presencia del pueblo judío en la península ibérica y sus aportaciones en el desarrollo cultural y literario de España.

    One of the favorite topics for Spanish historiography and modern philology has been, without a doubt, that of the Hispano-Jews and the converts. However, about the presence of the Jews on Hispanic soil, numerous questions have been raised that have not yet been fully resolved. Did the Hispanic Jews have such a relevant and decisive role in the Spanish society of the Middle Ages? Does Spain owe its cultural development to the Hispanic Semites, as Américo Castro defends? To what extent were the Jews and converts important in cultural activity and the development of the Spanish language and its literature? To answer these questions, this article deals with a review of the historiographical and philological research on the presence of the Jewish people in the Iberian Peninsula and its contributions to the cultural and literary development of Spain.
