• Resumen

  • We analyzed the studbook of the “ibicenco” rabbit breed to study its genetic structure. The generation length was eight months. The average number of equivalent complete generations was 1.8 with a mean inbreeding coefficient of 8% and a mean average relatedness coefficient of 18.8%, showing shallow pedigree and high level of inbreeding. The effective population size, the effective number of founders and ancestors, and the founder genome equivalent turned out to be 6, a stable number from the foundation that reveals the need to increase the population census.
