  • The development of livestock breeds is a dynamic process of selection and cross-breeding. There are many documents of the influence of foreign breeds in Spain during the last two centuries. Those documents have not been used in recent publications related to the origin of the current Spanish cattle breeds. Using crosses to accelerate genetic progress of local breeds should be accepted in addition to the selection, as it has historically been.
