In his scholarly late works, Giovanni Boccaccio made extensive use of Leontius Pilatus’ translations of the Homeric poems. After a brief overview of Boccaccio’s debts towards the Homeric poems in the four prose Latin works (Genealogie deorum gentilium, De montibus, De casibus and De mulieribus), this paper proves that Boccaccio, besides the Latin text of Iliad and Odyssey, also used Leontius’ marginal glosses as source of information. Therefore, De montibus’ geographical lemmata deriving from Leontius’ notes are analysed through a textual comparison and an accurate explanation of the author’s choices.
