the article reconstructs the editorial and intellectual relations between Francesco algarotti, the managers of his last editor, Coltellini, in livorno (in the person of Giuseppe aubert) and the famous writer and librarian Giovanni lami (whose library remains among the most important collections in which to find copies of algarotti’s works). a story made of continuous ambiguities; but, however, a story that, following the traces of reviews, criticism, book exchanges and letters, can open new perspectives on the reception of algarotti in tuscany and on the meaning of its critical “distrust”.
