The aim was to study the possibility of the use of the fava bean-rapeseed silage as an alternative to the Italian raygrass silage in dairy cows rations during the transition period. Nine dairy cows, divided in two groups, feeding diets based on fava bean-rapeseed silage or Italian raygrass silage under grazing conditions. The dry matter intake of unifeed of fava bean-rapeseed was a 28% lower than that of Italian ryegrass. However, this difference was compensated by a greater intake of pasture grass. The production and composition of milk was similar between treatments. The fava bean-rapeseed association could be an alternative to the Italian ryegrass for feeding transition dairy cows, allowing to reduce the supply of concentrate in the diet.
