Valencia, España
For centuries, sexual choices that deviated from what was considered normality were punished with the death penalty. This was the case of the transgender woman of Majorcan origin, Margarida Borràs (+1460), executed in Valencia. Her story – and the absence of her memory over the centuries– serves to highlight the reality of those people and social groups discriminated for reasons of sexual orientation. Our aim is for the reader/student to approach these issues with a historical perspective that will allow to establish parallels and find differences between the past and our times.
