  • Resumen
    • The EU regulation 1760/2000 establishes a system for the identification and registration of bovine animals. This system (SITRAN in Spain) relies on the continuous actualization of relational databases (REGA, RIIA and REMO) with information of great interest for the evaluation of the technical status of cattle farms. Using Cantabria as an example, we have developed a methodology based on different programming tools to obtain automatic reports representing graphically eight groups of variables of technical relevance for the evaluation of cattle livestock systems at a municipality scale. The groups of variables were: livestock census, size of herds, evolution of census by category of animals, fertility, breed of newborns, birth seasonality, age of calves when leaving the farm and use of common pastures. For most variables data was also apportioned by breed or age. This information has great potential for livestock systems characterizations, analyses and policy implementations.
