  • Resumen
    • The present study aims to evaluate the behavior of primiparous dairy cows in an automatic milking system (AMS) over 24 hours throughout a full lactation. Data were collected on a dairy farm with 130 animals which has an AMS with two robots. The AMS software provided the pattern of visits to the AMS and milk production of each animal. For this work data from 18 cows were used, all in first lactation. Only the days in milk between day 1 and 305 were considered. These animals were divided into 3 groups of 6 animals each. The groups were formed on the basis of individual production level: low, medium and high. To perform the statistical analysis the JMP program was used. It was performed the calculation of descriptive statistics and the effect of different factors on the milking frequency, via ANOVA model and Tukey test for comparison of means. The results show that, in general, different groups follow the same pattern in relation to the milking frequency in AMS. The visits to AMS were lower in periods when system performs its cleaning and during the food distribution period in the feed bunk. Conversely, peak frequency of milking occurred after these activities and during the conducting of animals to the AMS. When the group effect was considered, statistically significant differences (P <0.001) were observed between the high production group which showed a high frequency of milking per day (3.7 visits) in relation to the other two groups (2.9 and 3.2 for low and medium groups respectively).
