This study evaluated the effect of using maize silage produced with conventional or organic fertilization on the diets for dairy cows, in order to evaluate the effect on feed costs and profitability of milk production. The costs of production of maize silage were 0.087 and 0.079 € / kg DM for conventional and organic fertilization respectively, and, the starch concentration were 30.52% and 35.55% respectively. This reflected a higher efficiency of energy and lower cost of the diet based on organic maize silage by a lower use of concentrates in the unifeed ration set made from this maize silage. This reduction saves 25.3 cents in the daily cost of the ration per cow, allowing a positive balance of 21.8 cents per cow per day.
