In Goiás from the 1930s onwards, the isolation and control of leprosy/leprosy patients began with the construction of the Colônia Santa Marta leper colony, the preventive Educandário Afrânio de Azevedo - the subject of this article - and the dispensary in the city of Anápolis. In the preventive Educandário Afrânio de Azevedo, the inmates received the necessary assistance and education until they reached adulthood. The research seeks the speeches developed about the need for isolation and about the “prevention” of the contagion of leprosy/leprosy for children in preventive institutions, from the legislation and documentation that established the norms to be followed by such institutions, as well as from the modernist, hygienist and eugenic discourses.
