Se reconstruye la historia del sintagma sexo débil, desde sus antecedentes –sexo devoto, sexo bello o bello sexo y sexo frágil–hasta la última edición del diccionario de la lengua española (DLE 2021), observando su presencia en la lexicografía española y en los corpus de la RAE. Si bien dicha institución sostiene que el diccionario académico no puede eliminar la expresión misógina al ser usada por los/las hablantes, se demostrará que se trata de una falacia que contribuye a la perpetuación del lenguaje patriarcal.
The history of the misogynist phrase sexo débil (weaker sex) is reconstructed, from its antecedents - devout sex, fair sex and fragile sex - to the latest edition of the dictionary of the Spanish language (DLE 2021), observing its presence in Spanish lexicography and in the RAE corpora. This institution maintains that the academic dictionary cannot eliminate the misogynistic expression when used by the speakers, but it will be shown that it is a fallacy that contributes to the perpetuation of patriarchal language.
