    La primera estrena d’una peça de Samuel Beckett a Catalunya va tenir lloc al Teatre Club Windsor de Barcelona el febrer de 1956, quan el grup Pequeño Teatro va estrenar En attendant Godot, Esperando a Godot en la traducció espanyola de Trino Martínez Trives, que era alhora el director del muntatge. Es va representar dos cops en un teatre de butxaca de Barcelona, abans que obra i autor fossin identificats amb el concepte de «teatre de l’absurd» segons el crític Martin Esslin. Arreu on es va representar per primer cop, el text de Beckett va generar una gran controvèrsia entre la crítica teatral. Amb alguna excepció, la crítica barcelonina es va mostrar també sorpresa i incòmoda davant la radicalitat literària d’una peça essencial del teatre contemporani.

    The first premiere of a piece by Samuel Beckett in Catalonia took place at the Teatre Club Windsor in Barcelona in February 1956 when the group Pequeño Teatro premiered En attendant Godot, Esperando a Godot in the translation of Trino Martínez Trives, who was at the same time the director of the staging. He performed twice in a small theater in Barcelona, before play and author were identified with the concept of «theater of the absurd» according to the critic Martin Esslin. Wherever he was perfomed for the first time, Beckett’s text caused a great controversy in theatrical critique. With some exception, Barcelona’s critique was also surprising and uncomfortable regarding the literary radicality of an embryonic piece of the contemporary theater.
