  • Resumen
    • Starred vaults are without a doubt one of the most complex typologies and with a greater spatial, geometric and constructive richness found in cross vaults used in Spanish Gothic architecture. The trace in plan is essential in the spatial conception and construction of these types of vaults. This paper aims to contribute greater knowledge to the layout in horizontal plane of the starred cross vaults through the study of some Valencian vaults of this type. The process in which they were obtained will be shown in addition to how the trace in horizontal plane was obtained of two cross vaults built at the end of the 15th century: one covering the Chapel of the Lonja de la seda in Valencia and the one in the chapterhouse of the monastery of Santa María in Simat de Valldigna (Valencia). The research will include the results of the graphic representation of the vault plans, the geometric definition and dimensions as well as how the stars were generated. Other vaults that are the subject of study in the R+D+i Project “Valencian cross vaults from the 13th to 16th centuries. Spatial, geometric, constructive analysis and mathematical modeling” (file GV/2020/001) will be shown. The one built at the beginning of the 14th century in the side chapel of the church of the Santa María Monastery in El Puig (Valencia) or the ones built at the beginning of the 16th century in the church nave of San Bartolomé of Jávea (Alicante) and the one that covers its presbytery.
