Resumen de Filmando la música afroargentina: Documentales sobre el culto a san Baltazar (1964-2014)

  En este artículo analizamos dos documentales sobre el culto a san Baltazar que dan cuenta de su fiesta (6 de enero) y que fueron filmados en la misma capilla ubicada en el departamento de Goya -provincia de Corrientes, Argentina- en 1964 y 2014, respectivamente, con distintas finalidades y calidad de realización. El objetivo es contrastarlos a partir de la etnografía que hemos realizado sobre este culto de índole afrocatólica y entender el contexto en el que fueron producidos en cuanto testimonios fílmicos excepcionales por tratar un aspecto central de la música afroargentina, un área que cuenta aún con pocos estudios.

  In this article, two documentaries, of rather dissimilar filmmaking quality, about the cult of San Baltazar are are analyzed. They both give an account of this festivity -January 6- and were filmed in the same chapel located in the department of Goya -province of Corrientes, Argentina- in 1964 and 2014, respectively. The two films are compared on the basis of our fieldwork experience on this Afro-Catholic cult, in order to understand the context in which they were produced. These records will be shown to bear exceptional filmic testimony to a central aspect of Afro-Argentine music, an area in need of further study.
