    El presente trabajo describe la calidad educativa del ambiente familiar de 526 familias de niños preescolares entre 4.6 y 5.6 años de edad y la relación de esta variable con el desarrollo de funciones cognitivas en estos menores. Se utilizó el HOME para medir calidad educativa y el PMPE para evaluar funciones cognitivas. Como resultado se obtuvo que la calidad educativa del ambiente familiar se relaciona positiva y consistentemente con el desarrollo de funciones cognitivas en preescolares. Se describen y analizan los aspectos e indicadores de calidad que mostraron relación con el desarro110 de funciones cognitivas.

    Thís article describes the qualíty of home environment in 526 familíes of preschool children whose ages ranged from 4.6 to 5.6 years and the relation between this variable and the development of cognitive functions in children. Thc HOME inventory was applíed to mcasure quality of education and the PMPE test to evaluatc cognitive functions. It was found thal thc quality of home envíronment relates positively and consistently to thc developmcnt of cognitive funclions in these preschool children. A description and analysis of the various aspects and indicators of quality that showed relations with the developmcnt of cognitive functions in children is presented.
