    Los productos intermedios, 4-nitrofenol y 4-aminofenol, y el producto final de la síntesis del acetaminofén fueron caracterizados usando espectroscopía infrarroja y punto de fusión. La ruta sintética utilizada consta de tres partes: la nitración del grupo fenol, la reducción del grupo nitro a amina y la acetilación del grupo amino. La síntesis tuvo un rendimiento general del 43 %. Los espectros infrarrojos fueron obtenidos y comparados con espectros de la literatura y con la tabla de frecuencias infrarrojas, identificando así los principales grupos funcionales. El punto de fusión fue determinado para cada uno de los productos, encontrando valores dentro del rango de fusión reportados en la literatura. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que la síntesis de acetaminofén a partir de fenol fue exitosa, logrando caracterizar los subproductos en cada paso de la reacción.

    The intermediate products, 4-nitrophenol and 4-aminophenol, and the final product of acetaminophen synthesis were characterized using infrared spectroscopy and melting points. The synthetic route had three parts: nitration of the phenol group, reduction of the nitro group to amine and the acetylation of the amino group. The synthesis had an overall yield of reaction of 43 %. Infrared spectra were acquired and their main functional groups identified by comparing them to spectra obtained in the literature and in the infrared frequency table. The melting point was determined for each of the products where the values found were within the melting range got in the literature. The results show that the synthesis of acetaminophen from phenol was successful being able to characterize the products at each step of the reaction.
