    Este artículo expone las reflexiones que el historiador mexicano Edmundo              O ́Gorman escribió en 1940 acerca de la monstruosidad artística como base epistemológica para establecer un diálogo con el mundo artístico de los antiguos mexicanos y con el arte en general. Se observa que las formulaciones del autor de La invención de América son contemporáneas de las que expusiera el autor ruso Mijail Bajtin y que versan sobre el mismo tema; ambos son pioneros, aunque el primero organiza sus explicaciones en pocas páginas, de una perspectiva teórica que tiene gran cantidad de seguidores en la actualidad. En el presente trabajo se consideran otras afirmaciones de diversos autores sobre esa profunda dimensión del hombre que sólo las obras artísticas son susceptibles de expresar.

    This article presents the reflections the Mexican historian Edmundo O’Gorman wrote in 1940 about the artistic monstrosity as an epistemological basis for establishing a dialogue with the art world of the ancient Mexicans and art in general. It is observed that the formulations of the author of The Invention of America are contemporary with Russian author Mijail Bajtin and which deal with the same subject. Both are pioneers, however, the first organized his arguments in a few pages from a theoretical perspective that has many followers today. In this paper other claims from various authors are considered regarding this deep dimension of the human which only art is capable of expressing.
