    This text presents the fi rst results of a study on students of German at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Coimbra. One of the study’s goals is to collect data regarding the students’ previous knowledge of the German language, as well as the reasons that led them to choose this language. The study also aims to gather information about the process of language learning from the students’ perspective, focusing on what they regard as having been useful in this process – from classes to activities, materials and other resources for learning, in class and outside class – and also on aspects that could be improved in order to make language learningmore effective. The study is at its initial stage, so the text presents some of the students’ answers to the fi rst questionnaire, focusing on some of the issues mentioned above.

    O presente texto contém os primeiros resultados de um estudo sobre os alunos de Alemão da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra (FLUC). Um dos objetivos do estudo é conhecer melhor o perfi l desses alunos, quer em termos de aprendizagem prévia da língua, quer dos motivos que os levaram a escolher estudar Alemão. Além disso, pretende-se ainda recolher informações sobre a aprendizagem da língua alemã a partir da perspetiva dos alunos, focando, por um lado, o que eles consideram ter sido útil para a sua aprendizagem da língua – desde as aulas da licenciatura, com os seus materiais e atividades, até outros recursos para a aprendizagem, dentro e fora das aulas – e, por outro lado, o que os estudantes consideram desejável, os aspetos que poderiam ser melhorados para que a aprendizagem da língua fosse mais efi caz. O estudo encontra-se na sua fase inicial, pelo que, neste texto, serão apresentados alguns resultados dos primeiros inquéritos realizados, incidindo sobre os diferentes aspetos referidos.
