El objetivo de este trabajo es el de situar una de las obras más importantes del catálogo del compositor Manuel Penella (1880-1939), Don Gil de Alcalá, obra estrenada en 1932, en el contexto cultural de la II República en España, ajena a las vanguardias musicales desarrolladas por los compositores adscritos a la Generación de la República, y más en conexión con las producciones líricas de autores como Amadeo Vives, Federico Moreno Torroba o Pablo Sorozábal. AbstractThe objective of this work is to place one of the most important works in the catalog of the composer Manuel Penella (1880-1939), Don Gil de Alcalá, a work premiered in 1932, in the cultural context of the Second Republic in Spain, alien to the musical avant-gardes developed by the composers attached to the Generation of the Republic, and more in connection with the lyrical productions of authors such as Amadeo Vives, Federico Moreno Torroba or Pablo Sorozábal.
