    The paper analyzes statistical and descriptively the data resulted from a survey carried out with 248 families residing in the municipalities of Vitória, Cariacica and Vila Velha, whose children were enrolled in full-time early childhood education institutions. It aims to categorize the ethnic and socioeconomic status of the families interviewed; to identify the motivations that lead families to enroll their children in full-time early childhood education institutions and to analyze the set of factors of a social, economic and educational nature about the full-time program in early childhood education that have excelled in the answers of the families. The results identify as an ethnical and socioeconomic profile that most of the family members are black and present low schooling levels and low monthly household income. The need to work is the families main motivation to enroll children in full-time program schools. It's concluded that there's the acknowledgement from the family that the broadening of the length of stay in the institution contributes to increase possibilities of access to the formal schooling processes, in particular the learning of reading and writing, as well as it enables the socialization with other children.

    Este artigo analisa estatística e descritivamente os dados decorrentes de um survey realizado com 248 famílias residentes nos municípios de Vitória, Cariacica e Vila Velha, cujos filhos encontravam-se matriculados na educação infantil em tempo integral. Estabelece como objetivos caracterizar o perfil étnico e socioeconômico das famílias entrevistadas; identificar as motivações das famílias ao matricular seus filhos no tempo integral e analisar o conjunto de fatores de natureza social, econômica e educacional que mais sobressaíram, nas respostas dos familiares, sobre a educação infantil em tempo integral. Os resultados identificam como perfil étnico e socioeconômico que a maioria dos familiares são negros e apresentam baixa escolaridade e baixa renda familiar mensal. A necessidade de trabalho da família é a principal motivação para a matrícula dos filhos no tempo integral. Conclui-se que há o reconhecimento por parte das famílias de que a ampliação do tempo de permanência na instituição contribui com o aumento das possibilidades de acesso aos processos formais de escolarização, em especial o aprendizado da leitura e da escrita, bem como viabiliza a socialização com outras crianças.
