A obra-prima impossível: uma leitura do tema da idealização e fracasso na arte

    In the literary discourse of the nineteenth century, idealization emerges as a theme and a metapoetic topic capable of eliciting an important reflection on the meaning of artistic creation, its challenges and li - mits, as well as on the rhetorical relations between reality and representation. In this context, many narratives addres this matter, one of the most celebrated of which being The unknown masterpiece (1831), by Honoré de Balzac, which takes painting as a reference to develop an emblematic representation of the artist engaged in an obsessive pursuit of perfection, establishing certain approximated perspectives. Based on Balzac’s elaboration, here we look at how other texts – such as The Madonna of the future (1873), by Henry James, and the narrative “Paolo Uccello”, from Imaginary lives (1896), by Marcel Schwob – share this dynamic and what conceptual and formal implications they have to language and the imaginary.

    No discurso literário do século XIX, a idealização surge como um tema e um tópico metapoético capaz de ensejar importante reflexão sobre o sentido da criação artística, seus desafios e limites, bem como sobre as relações retóricas entre realidade e represen - tação. Nesse contexto, diversas nar - rativas se ocupam do assunto, sendo uma das mais célebres A obra-prima ignorada (1831), de Honoré de Balzac, que toma a pintura como referencial para desenvolver uma representação emblemática do artista empenhado em uma busca obsessiva pela perfeição, estabelecendo certas perspectivas que se aproximam. Neste artigo, veremos, então, a partir da elaboração balzaquia - na, como outros textos, a exemplo de A Madona do futuro (1873), de Henry James, e do relato “Paolo Uccello”, do livro Vidas imaginárias (1896), de Marcel Schwob, se inserem nessa dinâmica e que implicações conceituais e formais trazem à linguagem e ao imaginário.
