This article presents a translation project, currently underway,which aims to translate theatre texts from de Austrian author ElfriedeJelinek. It briefly addresses to the tradition of theatre translation in Brazil,the criteria for the selection of the texts to be translated, the theoreticalbias and the concept of collaborative translation. The reflections presentedhere deal with three guiding questions: why translate Elfriede Jelinek’stheatre in Brazil? Which works should be translated? How can they betranslated?

O artigo apresenta um projeto atualmente em andamento, que tem como objetivo a tradução de textos teatrais de Elfriede Jelinek. Aborda de forma breve a tradição da tradução teatral do Brasil, os critérios da seleção dos textos a serem traduzidos dentro do referido projeto, o viés teórico pelo qual se orientam as estratégias empregadas e o conceito de tradução colaborativa. Assim, as reflexões aqui apresentadas foram conduzidas por três perguntas norteadoras: por que traduzir o teatro de Jelinek no Brasil? Quais obras traduzir? Como traduzi-las?
