    El presente ensayo hace una reflexión sobre la representación de obras de artistas mujeres de América Latina en exposiciones colectivas realizadas en España. Partiendo de datos que evidencian la desigual participación de artistas latinoamericanos hombres y mujeres en muestras desarrolladas desde finales de la década de 1970 hasta la actualidad, se plantea una serie de cuestionamientos y aseveraciones que permitan entender por qué obras de artistas mujeres de América Latina no fueron seleccionadas para integrar estas exposiciones y, en consecuencia, no entran a formar parte del canon de la Historia del Arte Latinoamericano. Para intentar comprender la enorme laguna ocasionada debido a la ausencia de las artistas y las obras, se buscan respuestas en las presencias: ¿qué significa ser latinoamericana, mujer y artista dentro del escenario artístico hegemónico?, ¿cuáles fueron las artistas que lograron participar de las “grandes muestras latinoamericanas”? y ¿qué narrativa predominó en las escasas muestras colectivas dedicadas exclusivamente a artistas mujeres?

    The current essay reflects on the representation of works by Latin American women artists in group exhibitions held in Spain. Based on data that shows the inequality participation among male and female Latin American artists in exhibitions organized from the late 1970s to the present day, a series of questions and assertions are raised that allow us to understand why works by female artists from Latin America were not selected for these exhibitions and, consequently, do not take part of the canon of the History of Latin American Art. In order to understand the enormous gap left by the absence of women artists and works, answers are sought in the artists present: what does it mean to be Latin American, a woman and an artist within the hegemonic art scene?, which artists managed to participate in the “great Latin American exhibitions”?, and what narrative prevailed in the few collective exhibitions dedicated exclusively to women artists?
