Resumen de Autoría y plagio en las traducciones al español de [on] the origin of species de Charles Darwin (1872-2001)

En el presente artículo revisamos la "historia oficial" de las numerosas retraducciones al español de una de las obras clásicas más influyentes del pensamiento científico, [On] The Origin of Species (1859-1872), del naturalista británico Charles Darwin, comercializadas en nuestro país durante el período comprendido entre 1872 y 2001, con mención de sus respectivos traductores y editores, que como tales han venido siendo aceptados hasta la fecha, tanto en el mercado editorial de España e Hispanoamérica como en la historia de la traducción y de la ciencia. A la luz de las llamativas coincidencias detectadas en un estudio cualitativo previo de dichos textos traducidos, efectuamos un exhaustivo análisis cuantitativo de los mismos, valiéndonos para ello de la metodología y de las herramientas informáticas desarrolladas a tal efecto en el ámbito de la lingüística forense. Los resultados de dicho análisis nos permiten identificar a los verdaderos artífices de las traducciones, cuya labor y fundamental aportación a la recepción y difusión del pensamiento darwinista en lengua española pretendemos aquí reivindicar.

This article examines the "official history" of the numerous Spanish retranslations of one of the most influential classical works in science, [On] The Origin of Species (1859, 1872), by British naturalist Charles Darwin, published in Spain between 1872 and 2001, with reference to their translators and publishers, accepted as such to date both by the book publishing market in Spain and Latin America and in the History of Translation and Science. In the light of the striking similarities found in a previous qualitative study of the aforesaid translated texts, we conduct an exhaustive quantitative analysis of these translations, using the methodology and computer tools developed to that effect in the field of Forensic Linguistics. The results of this analysis allow us to identify the actual agents behind the real translations, whose work and fundamental contribution to the reception and dissemination of Darwin’s theories in Spanish we aim to vindicate here.
