  Actualmente se cumplen 35 años de la publicación del libro “Las matemáticas sí cuentan”, más conocido por su subtítulo El informe Cockroft. En el presente artículo se sintetizan las principales ideas vertidas en este informe sobre la importancia de la resolución de problemas y su tratamiento por parte de los libros de texto. En un segundo momento, se revisan las críticas que este material hegemónico ha recibido por parte de diferentes expertos, desde el momento de la publicación de este informe en la década de los años ochenta hasta la actualidad. Finalmente, se proponen algunas alternativas para el cambio.

  Thirty-five years have now passed after the publication of the book “Mathematics counts”, better known by its subtitle Cockcroft Report. This article summarizes the main ideas expressed in this report about the importance of problem solving and its treatment by textbooks. In a second stage, criticisms that this hegemonic material has received from different experts are reviewed, from the publication’s time of this report in the eighties to the present. Finally, some alternatives for change are suggested.
