Muralismo otomí en una escuela primaria de Guanajuato

    El objetivo principal de esta investigación es el análisis iconográfico de un mural realizado por artistas locales en una comunidad otomí del noreste de Guanajuato. Se argumenta que la creación de esta obra se encuentra relacionada con discusiones sobre patrimonio y con la articulación de un lenguaje común entre grupos locales e instituciones estatales. El enfoque utilizado es inductivo, combina la etnografía con el uso de fuentes secundarias relacionadas con la mitología otomí y con la historia y la política locales. Como resultado se observa que el mural está permeado por una mirada esencialista y por objetivos pedagógicos dirigidos a la propia población otomí, ocultando la diversificación social y las tensiones históricas que han configurado su territorio. Así, el estudio implica una discusión no agotada sobre el actual talante político de las comunidades de interés. Su valor reside en la propia lectura del mural puesto en contexto etnográfico y temporal, y permite concluir que existe un talante negociador entre líderes y grupos otomíes específicos para coincidir y aprovechar ciertos matices del proyecto multicultural oficial.

    The main objective of this research is the iconographic analysis of a mural made by local artist in an Otomi community in northeast Guanajuato. It is argued that the creation of the plastic work is related to discussions on patrimony and the articulation of a common language between local groups and state institutions. The approach used is inductive, combining ethnographic work and the use of secondary sources related to Otomi mythology, local history and politics. As a result, it can be seen that the mural is permeated by an essentialist perspective and by pedagogical objectives directed at the Otomi population itself, hiding the social diversification as well as the historical tensions that have shaped its territory. In this sense, the study involves an unanswered discussion about the current political mood of the communities of interest. Its value lies in the reading of the mural itself placed in an ethnographic and temporal contest, and allow us to conclude that there is a negotiation spirit between leaders and specific Otomi groups to coincide and take advantage of certain nuances of the official multicultural project.
