Resumen de Evidencias de impacto meteorítico en el Eoceno Superior de Fuente Caldera (Granada, Cordilleras Béticas)

The Fuente Caldera section has been sampled at high resolution in search of meteorite impact evidence and a Ni-rich spinel level has been found in the middle Priabonian (Late Eocene). The bios-tratigraphic study allowed us to precisely date the meteorite impact evidence in the lower part ofthe Clobigerapsis index Biozone of planktic foraminifera and in the middle part of the Cibicidoi-des truncanus (BB4) Biozone of small benthic foraminifera. The impact evidence does not coincidewith any planktic or benthic foraminiferal extinction events. In contrast to the Cretaceous/Tertiaryboundary catastrophic mass extinction event, this meteorite impact was smaller and it did not causeany mass extinction in foraminifera.
