  • The Fuente Caldera section has been sampled at high resolution in search of meteorite impact evidence and a Ni-rich spinel level has been found in the middle Priabonian (Late Eocene). The bios-tratigraphic study allowed us to precisely date the meteorite impact evidence in the lower part ofthe Clobigerapsis index Biozone of planktic foraminifera and in the middle part of the Cibicidoi-des truncanus (BB4) Biozone of small benthic foraminifera. The impact evidence does not coincidewith any planktic or benthic foraminiferal extinction events. In contrast to the Cretaceous/Tertiaryboundary catastrophic mass extinction event, this meteorite impact was smaller and it did not causeany mass extinction in foraminifera.
