    La neutropenia post quimioterapia está identificada como el factor que más predispone a la infección en pacientes con cáncer; debido a que los neutrófilos constituyen el principal sistema de defensa del organismo. Teniendo en cuenta el rol que debe desarrollar el personal de enfermería en la prevención de las infecciones en estos pacientes, se realizó una revisión documental actualizada sobre el tema con el objetivo de establecer las acciones de enfermería que contribuyen a prevenir las infecciones en el paciente neutropenico y mejorar su calidad de vida. Se utilizaron para ello los métodos teóricos análisis- síntesis e inducción-deducción. El enfermero, como miembro activo del equipo multidisciplinario resulta clave en la prevención de infecciones al paciente neutropénico, pues sus cuidados están encaminados a cumplir medidas de higiene y confort, asegurar la nutrición adecuada del paciente y brindar educación y medidas de soporte; lo que favorece restablecer, conservar y promover, la salud del paciente oncológico con neutropénico.

Keeping in mind the list that the infirmary personnel should develop in the prevention of the infections in these patients, he was carried out a documental revision modernized on the topic with the objective of the infirmary actions that contribute to prevent the infections in the patient neutropenico and to improve his quality of life settling down. They were used for it the methods theoretical analysis - synthesis and induction-deduction. The male nurse, as active member of the medical team is key in the prevention of infections to the patient neutropenico, because his cares are guided to complete measures of hygiene and comfort, to assure the patient´s appropriate nutrition and to offer education and support measures; what favours to re-establish, to conserve and to promote, the health of the oncology patient with neutropenic.
