    This article aims to address the animation cinema as a possible historical source.

    To do so, it uses the Avatar: The Legend of Aang (2005-2008), an American animated series influenced by Japanese animes, as a document for reflection. The study is based on theorists who create instruments for the analysis of animated images, recognize their specificities as human production and approach cinema as a creator of historical discourse. The aspects of the plot and the construction of the narrative in the episode "The Day of the Avatar" allow interconnections between the individual memory of a group and the universal aspect of a particular fact, thus highlighting the writing of history itself.

    Este artigo objetiva abordar o cinema de animação como possibilidade de fonte histórica. Para tanto, utiliza o desenho Avatar: a lenda de Aang (2005-2008), série animada estadunidense inspirada nos animes japoneses, como documento para a reflexão. O estudo se apoia em teóricos que criaram instrumentos para análise das imagens animadas, reconheceram suas especificidades como objeto cultural e abordaram o cinema como criador de discurso histórico. Os aspectos do enredo e construção da narrativa no episódio “O dia do Avatar” possibilitam interligações entre a memória individual de um grupo e o aspecto universal de determinado fato, pondo, assim, em destaque a própria escrita da História
