    Marvel Luz Moreno Abello, nacida en Barranquilla (Colombia) en 1939, fue autodidacta en literatura y ciencias humanas. A partir de los años 70 se hace partícipe de la vida cultural parisina, convirtiéndose París en su segundo hogar. Su escritura da testimonio de que la cultura latinoamericana es, por tradición, falocrática y paternalista por lo que tiene la necesidad de proyectar un discurso femenino que critica a la cultura patriarcal, a la vez que se cuentan con enfoques feministas, de la sexualidad, la tradición modernista, de frontera, la vida cotidiana, la sociedad y la ciudad, relaciones entre región, nación y cosmopolitismo, entre otros.

    Algunas de sus obras más destacadas son En diciembre llegaban las brisas y los relatos “Ciruelas para Tomasa”, “La noche feliz de Madame Yvonne”, entre otros muchos. La Barranquilla que refleja Moreno en su obra se refiere a las esctructuras sociales y morales que inmovilizan a los seres humanos, creando en ellos estados como malestar, depresión, locura, etc. Marvel Moreno fallece en París en 1995, víctima de un enfisema pulmonar.

    Marvel Luz Moreno Abello, born in Barranquilla, Colombia in 1939, was self-taught in literature and humanities. From the 1970’s she became a participant in Parisian cultural life, thus becoming Paris her second home. Her writing testifies that the Latin American culture is by tradition phallocratic and paternalistic so it has the need to project a feminine discourse that criticizes the patriarchal culture, at the same time that feminist perspective, sexuality, and modernist traditions are presented, topics about border, daily life, society and the city, relations between region, nation and cosmopolitanism, among others.

    Some of her most outstanding works are In December came the breezes and the stories “Plums for Tomasa”, “The happy night of Madame Yvonne”, among many others. The Barranquilla that reflects Moreno in her work refers to the social and moral structures that immobilize human beings creating in them states such as malaise, depression, madness, etc. Marvel Moreno died in Paris in 1995, victim of pulmonary emphysema.
