    During the last fifty years or so, the role of tax statutes has changed in Canada, from a mere tool for the levying of revenues to an instrument of economic policy in some regions, through tax incentives, particularly tax credits. The author identifies such tax credits applicable in Quebec. Moreover, she explains that, through new Foreign Trade Zone points, Canada has developed an approach to attract foreign investment in specific locations. The focus is also on the way Canada fulfills the commitment made to the First Nations a long time ago to protect from taxation Indian property locatedon reserves.

    Those territoriality-based issues are discussed in this paper.

    Depuis près de 50 ans, le rôle des lois fiscales a changé au Canada : de la simple perception des impôts, il est passé à la création d'activités économiques dans certaines régions par l'octroi d'avantages fiscaux, notamment de crédits d'impôt. C'est le cas au Québec. De plus, par le biais de nouveaux « centres zones franches », le Canada cherche à attirer des capitaux étrangers dans des sites ciblés.

    Par ailleurs, pour honorer l'engagement pris il y a très longtemps à l'égard des Premières Nations, le Canada veille à protéger de toute imposition les biens des Indiens situés sur les réserves.

    Tous ces sujets fondés sur la territorialité sont abordés dans le présent texte.
