    La formación en investigación del estudiante de Odontología, representa un reto tanto para el docente como para la Universidad. El estudiante de pregrado debe estar en contacto con la investigación desde el inicio de la carrera, para desarrollar en él su razonamiento crítico a la hora de leer un manuscrito, el discernimiento de las ideas, la flexibilidad, la habilidad de trabajar en equipo, entre otras cualidades necesarias para ser un buen investigador. Es importante, asimismo, la creación de cursos teóricos y prácticos en el área de la investigación, que vaya a la par de las materias odontológicas de la carrera y mejoren el proceso enseñanza-aprendizaje. Finalmente, es importante romper las barreras que aún en este siglo siguen siendo un obstáculo para que las Universidades puedan formar estudiantes altamente capacitados para investigar y poder contribuir de esta manera a la generación de nuevos conocimientos.

    The training of the student of Dentistry represents a great challenge at present both for the teacher and for the University, since it is clearly known the great importance of research in the integral formation of students. That is why the undergraduate student must be in contact with research from the beginning of the career to develop critical reasoning when reading a manuscript, discernment of ideas, flexibility and the ability of team work among other qualities necessary to be a good researcher. It is also important the creation of theoretical and practical courses in the area of research that goes hand in hand with the formation in Dentistry and improve the teaching-learning process. Finally, it is important to break the barriers that even in this century continue to be an obstacle for Universities, mainly in Latin America, to train highly qualified students, not only to investigate if not to publish and to contribute in this way to the generation of new knowledge.
