    Después de recordar brevemente la nueva comprensión de la metáfora alcanzada en el último tercio del siglo XX por Reddy, Lakoff y otros, el artículo estudia la metáfora CONOCER ES VER, que encarna la frase de Platón “el ojo del alma”. Esta metáfora obviamente conlleva que la ciencia debe producir un retrato del mundo que pretende conocer. Varios ejemplos de la práctica efectiva de la ciencia se usan para mostrar que esto no es así.

    After a brief reminder of the new understanding of metaphor reached in the late 20th century by Reddy, Lakoff and others, the paper delves into the metaphor KNOWING IS SEEING, embodied in Plato’s phrase “the eye of the soul”. The metaphor plainly entails that science must yield a portrait of the world it purports to know. Several examples from the actual practice of science are adduced to show that this is by no means the case.
